College is a Big Investment |
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the 2011-2012 average cost for one year of college was $16,789 at public colleges and $33,716 at private colleges. For a four year degree, your student invests time, talent, and somebody's $80,000 - $130,000.
There are legally binding commitments as well as non-legally binding stages to the college process that need to be managed. Of greater concern is understanding what your student wants out of life, what the student then needs out of college, and which schools will best serve your student academically, socially, spiritually and will lead to the professions and lifestyles that your student would find fulfilling. That said, my students and I have a lot of fun through the college application process. My process allows students to critically evaluate who they are, joyfully construct a narrative that makes sense of themselves, and identify potential future vocations that allow them to find satisfaction in their own purpose. Identifying suitable colleges and completing effective applications are an outcome of the work we do focusing on your student. |
