Accessible Taxis

Imagine All the People... Riding Cabs with Ease...

Catching a cab to get to where you are going.  A simple act that many people perform every day with ease.

But what if you have medical equipment that takes up a lot of space and needs special equipment just to get into the cab?  Something as simple as a walker, wheelchair or service dog can be awkward in a vehicle.  And consider the logistics of getting a wheelchair or motorized wheelchair into a vehicle... those Prius taxis are just not cut out for this kind of service.

And yet, you need to get around.  Public transportation is a necessity for many people to live a self sufficient life.

Thankfully, coordinated resources to transport all of us are getting better all the time.  In Chicago, you can dial 1-855-WAV-1010 to request a wheelchair accessible taxi.  You can call when you need a ride, or if you prefer, you can schedule a ride ahead of time.  You can learn more at www.opentaxis.com.

New York City has an accessible dispatch service at http://www.accessibledispatch.com/_.
